Another day in the books! Didn’t really get a whole lot accomplished today which is ok, because I’m on vacation! (sort of) The only thing that lingers over my head right now is my school work. Taking two classes in a 8 week term has been decent so far but will gradually become harder to keep up with once June hits. I gotta push myself to really buckle down these next 4 weeks. So we’ll see how it goes.

Went to the dentist again today. Got my teeth cleaned. Gotta go back in four months which is pretty good. The dentist told me today though that I really need to connect with the oral surgeon to set up an appointment to get my wisdom teeth yanked out since they are just wasting space. So I might try to set up the consultation for when early July. We will see.

Lakers won again today. Denver really sucked it up. The “Road Warrior” Chauncey Billups has really been sucking it up lately. The Lakers are a good team but I still don’t really care for them. I hope that Denver sucks it up to win out this series but I don’t know if that will happen or not. The Jordan wannabe is just too good I think to let that happen. That’s all I got for now!

it’s been a long day…

I haven’t really had the time to blog the past few weeks but I doubt anyone really noticed except for maybe Kristen and a couple other peeps. Things have been pretty busy with the end of school and the process of close down and what not. This time is when my jobs goes from being relational to working at a desk for most of the day. Needless to say, my job is a lot more draining these days. Overall though things have been pretty good. This Friday is my last day before I get my two month break over the summer. I’m pretty excited about that. Only bummer is I still have summer classes to worry about but what else is new.

Church has been pretty good lately. We are starting a series on the life of David. I am excited to learn more about who he is and why he was described as a man after God’s own heart. It has been neat to learn what I have so far about David in these past two weeks. His life really revolved around the fact that he knew who he was in God and trusted God with the intentions of his life. It’s not always easy to trust but David lived his life in such a way that was extremely powerful which was based off that trust in the Lord. As me and my friends begin to discover who we are in Christ and who He says we are in Him, are lives are beginning to make a shift that is creating a culture of trust instead of fear which is allowing us to remove some of our masks that we have been forced to wear for so many years. Kind of scary and exciting all at the same time. I pray though that I would be able to trust in God with the intentions of my life and the person that He has brought me up to be in Him. I pray that I would live out of that trust and be able to reveal the true me and trust that true me with others around me.

It’s late Tuesday night and I am relaxing out on my patio enjoying that surprisingly calm, peaceful night. I feel like I have a lot on my mind but nothing really worth putting into words. As stated in previous posts, the end of this school year is quickly coming to an end. It seems like yesterday that the semester was just starting up and here we are, 4 days away from graduation, crazy! Kind of crazy to think that I am also finishing up my second year as an RD. Who would of thought! Crazy to think 4 years ago about this time my journey started as I pursued different RD jobs fresh out of college. After many failed attempts and a few years in the making, God finally brought me here to Canyon and I was given my first shot at a professional career in Residence Life. Many people thought I “wasn’t ready” to be an RD and that I needed more time to be “better prepared” for the position. Funny how that works out huh. I always find it interesting that “people” just like me always think that fresh out of college they were ready for a certain job or position but someone like me needed more time to “develop”. I guess that’s just how the cookie crumbles though, right? It seems that my whole life I have always been underestimated and told that I wasn’t ready for the next step. Hopefully as I continue on in this profession, that I won’t forget what it was like in the beginning. That I won’t forget that everyone deserves a shot at greatness. That not everyone is a “seasoned pro” right out of the gates.

So for those people that believed in me, I thank you. When you are told your whole life that “your not ready yet”, it starts to break down the confidence that one has in themself. For a long while, that was me. It took my time at Target to realize that I was ready to be something great, I just had to work for it. It was nice having people believe in who I was as a person and believing in who I was as a leader. Its funny how a multi-billion dollar organization had more faith in me to have keys to a 50 million dollar a year store and lead a team of over 50 grown adults, but others thought I wasn’t ready to be an RD. Weird how that works out. But I am thankful for the journey that I have been on and for those who showed no confidence in me and for those who new I could do it. I pray though that I never take for granite the journey that I had to walk and never lose the passion and determination that it took to get me here.

the truth? what’s that

Have you ever wondered what provokes people to lie? I guess I know why I used to lie or “stretch the truth”. I used to do it to save face or to cover up my tracks. I would also tell lies to cover up the sin that was taking place in my life. Now days I don’t really have the need to lie like I used to as a kid and teenager. This is not because I have it all together or because I no longer sin, because that is not the case. Now days when I am confronted with things that I have done wrong, I lean towards the side of just being truthful. Even though I know what consequences may come, I know that in the end it will be better to be truthful upfront rather than hide it.

So to all the people out there that have the struggle with lying, it’s not worth it. Now I know it’s easier said than done but it’s better to set your soul free by telling the truth rather than wearing around the burden of knowing you lied. And trust me, when your telling a lie, you are only fooling yourself. It’s normally clear to those around you what is taking place and the truth somehow has a way of making its way to the surface. When you were a child, you once thought I as a child. Now that you are an adult, it is time to start acting like an adult. But maybe the proof is in the pudding and there’s a reason for the child-like ways.

a few words…

The week is finally over! I don’t say that by any means with a negative conotation. It has been an actioned packed month and this week was no exception. This is the first night that we didn’t have an event here at school it feels like this whole month. So Ruth and I spent with our two dear friends Matty Wayne and Sarah. We went to the Lonestar and enjoyed some good food and some good company.

As the month slowly comes to an end though, so does the time at Canyon for four of my friends/co-workers. Today was Kristen’s last day and soon it will be Ant’s, Tammy’s and Matt’s. I must say that I am excited to see where God takes each of these people and am excited to hear how He uses them wherever they go. At the same time it will not be the same next year without the four of them. The sad thing is I don’t think Canyon realizes what they will be missing out on with these people not being around next year. Certain people can pretend that next year is going to be better with these people gone but I personally strongly disagree. I am personally thankful for each of their contributions to this place along with their passions to see students grow and mature into who God desires them to be. Thanks for all you have done!

integrity through your eyes…

So tonight was our leadership BBQ. I wasn’t too sure how it would turn out but overall I think (hope) that the leaders had a fun, relaxing time away from school. Finals week is about to hit along with graduation and that whirlwind can sometimes allow you to miss out on the best part of college, meaningful relationships. So to all our student leaders, I hope you enjoyed your time of just hanging out with one another. Don’t let these relationships pass you by because they will be gone before you know it!

On my twitter today I decided to throw out a word and see what the twitter nation had to say about it. The word I chose was Integrity. The reason I chose that word is because I think that word is thrown out to frequently without knowing what it truly means. I think Integrity along with Ethics is all relevant to whom you ask. It is one of those words whose definition is forever changing depending on who you ask. My brother-in-law Nate(@swedishrockkid), was one of the two people that happened to respond and I really liked his response. Here was his definition: someone who’s able to be trusted with others following them. I was intrigued by what he had to say and will ponder over what he wrote. Thanks for sharing bro. The other definition of integrity that I received was this:living w/ integrity is living and loving in God’s standards. Your integrity will never be greater than your spiritual maturity. I am still pondering over this definition and trying to understand what the author was trying to get across. All in all I appreciate both tweets back to me. The reality is, it is hard to define a word like integrity through one tweet. But I do appreciate the responses. Thanks guys.

I find it hard most times to have my mind not wonder and focus on the task that is at hand. For example, today as I sat in church I would hear different things throughout the talk that would trigger my mind to wonder which would then begin to turn into a conversation by myself that I have in my head. I have trouble sometimes just living in the present. My mind tends to wonder towards the future which brings anxiety that stems to the “future” conversations I tend to start up in my head. This problem tends to take away from the present and what God is showing me throughout the current day. I was challenged though today to start to let go of the past and to let the anxiety of the future go and allow the current to be enjoyed to the fullest. So we will see how this is able to play out in my life. Just a small thought of what I was challenged with while at church today.
